Configure Your Modem
The D-Link 302G ADSL modem supplied by Optus has been customised by D-Link for optimal performance on the Optus DSL Broadband service.
While these instructions are provided for your reference, the simplest and recommended method to install and configure your modem is to follow the step by step instructions on the self-installation CD.
Using the Self-Installation CD
The self-installation CD contains simple step by step instructions for installing your modem. It also installs and configures all the software you will need to connect to your Optus DSL Broadband service.
The software installed includes:
- a USB modem driver customised for use on the Optus DSL Broadband service
- the Optus Desktop Service Centre
- the latest customised Internet Explorer web browser
- your primary Optus DSL Broadband email account set-up within Outlook Express
- a customised desktop icon for instant browsing
- a Connection Guide for troubleshooting
- an Uninstall wizard
To install and configure your modem using the self-installation CD:
- Quit all other open applications
- Insert the Optus DSL Broadband self-installation CD into your computer's CD ROM drive
- When the Main Menu appears select DSL Installation and follow the simple step by step instructions
- If your PC has sound, ensure that this is turned up
When the CD is finished you will automatically be connected to the Optus DSL Broadband service.
It is also possible (though not recommended) to manually configure your modem. This can be done using a web browser to access the management software embedded in the modem.
Installing Your Modem
You will find detailed step by step instructions for installing your modem on the self-installation CD. This summary is provided for your reference.
Installing filters

A filter must be installed on each of the telephony devices that share the same telephone line as your Optus DSL Broadband service. These include:
- telephones
- fax machines
- dial-up modems
- answering machines
- some digital pay TV equipment
- any other device connected to your DSL enabled telephone line
Place a filter on all telephones or similar devices at your premises by unplugging the telephone cord and placing a filter between the phone and the wall socket as shown.
If you have a home monitoring service (Back to Base security or medical alarm) that uses the same phone line as your DSL service, it is your responsibility to arrange for a central filter to be installed in your premises. If you do not do this, you will experience problems with your DSL connection and your monitoring service. If you require further information about central filters please call Optus DSL Broadband Customer Service.
Connecting the Cables
The connection sockets at the rear of your D-Link 302G modem look like this:

To connect your modem
The D-Link 302G ADSL modem can use either USB or Ethernet to connect to your computer.
- If you are connecting via USB you will need to run the self-installation CD to install the USB driver before you connect your modem. The D-Link 302G ADSL modem supplied by Optus has been customised for the Optus DSL Broadband service. Only the USB driver supplied on the self-installation CD will work with the Optus service.
- If you connecting via Ethernet it is possible to manually configure your modem without the self-installation CD. Only a web browser is required.
Next, you will need to:
- Connect either the USB or Ethernet cable between your PC to the respective port on your modem. Do not connect using both methods as this may cause problems.
- Connect the telephone cord between the ADSL port on the modem and the telephone wall socket. (You will need a double adaptor if you also use this wall socket for your telephone.)
- Plug the power pack cable into the modem power socket labelled "9V AC 1A" and plug the power pack into a power point.
Starting your modem
